In the first quarter,we witnessed the outbreak of the war in Ukraine,a catastrophic event for humanity,and one of our top priorities was ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees.We made a large humanitarian aid donation to the International Committee of the Red Cross to aid the people of Ukraine.We have suspended the receipt of new orders from Russia,where ABB’s business previously accounted for about 1-2%of the Group’s sales revenue.

Customer demand remained strong throughout the quarter,driving orders up 21%year over year(up 28%on a comparable basis).Most key customer areas and market regions grew well,with three of the four business units achieving high double-digit growth.Notably,the significant increase in order volume was driven by a high volume of regular customer demand rather than large orders,and included approximately$190 million in cancellations for the Process Automation division.
