The overall size of the application is often an important distinguishing feature.Many small PLCs indeed have the function of extending the initial boundary of the control system by adding a main bus controller module.Whether utilizing multiple racks or using dedicated remote I/O,both can expand the I/O count to 100,000 or more.This can greatly reduce the man-hours required for system configuration and development.Newer PLC-based PACs generally have a smaller footprint and,therefore,are in many cases much smaller than PACs,allowing more external I/O to be added.
